Spanish MBI - Tues 5/31
Spanish were from the jetty to a little north of mercer pier, in the cleaner water, about 25-30'. That's as far up as we had to go to get them anyway. Trolling clarkspoons, deep divers, and a cedar plug was only producing big blues. We could see the Spanish busting around us so I said put this trolling crap up and get your shiny jigs ready!! We cut the motors and drifted, as many spaniards as you could want. They weren't constantly visible on the surface but could still be seen once in a while around the boat & also under the boat a few feet down. They didn't want big plugs, they wanted the smallest ones, the minnows they were feeding on were pretty tiny too. Got kinda slow around Noon, had enough of that and put the blues out to troll....d***sharks destroyed them all before any King or Ling could!!!
Catch em up!!

I hear ya Amanda...we spanked them a bit on Monday. Nice bait balls around the pier--200+ yards off the end. (you cant miss the BROWN SPOTS)Tried to see if there were in cobia in the mix but no dice on a bucktail/eel combo. Spanish were thick and we boated a small cooler full and yup...BLUE's TOO. Jumped off the spot and headed for the topsail box cars...fished them all trying to find a Mahi bite but no dice. Shoulda went to Jesse's ledge..heard the bite was there. Oh well...next time!
