We are planning to maybe go out this weekend (since we are sitting out OBO) and catch some Spanish. Any ideas where they have been?

just go out to Keypost rock in front of the Bogue Inlet Pier, the big Spanish are plentiful, 3-6 pound Spanish. 4-6" pogies will wear them out.

watch this:

from the bait, to the rig, catching and cleaning, it's all there. Takes a few minutes to load but well worth the wait. All your questions answered with the action to boot.

Thanks Weekender that looks like fun!

But we were actually trying to catch up some smaller ones for bait.

Then try pulling Yozuries or clark spoons instead of live bait and the smaller ones should hit.

A friend of mine fished out of Beaufort inlet last week and they did good on big spanish with live bait around the cans in the shipping channel.

Pulling small spoons you should be able to pick up some small spanish a mile or so offshore between bogue inlet and bear inlet. that area has worked for me in the past. for bigger spanish right now they are picking up some 3 to 5 lb spanish out around Keypost.
Good Luck, but you should be fishing the OBO-KMT.

According to informed and experienced Captains bogue inlet is now in better shape and better marked than it has been in years. However it does get a little narrow at the breakers. I can not speak to just how well the inlet is because I've not been out it in over a month been going out beaufort inlet.
