A Good Day August Day Offshore Wrightsville 8/10/10
Had such a good day inshore 2 days ago, decided to see if our luck worked offshore. Yep it did!!!
Had the pleasure of taking Derick and Pete offshore looking for anything. Left Masonboro Inlet around 7AM. Nice seas. Headed to a spot around 35 nm's out, thinking there might be some larger Mahi there. Put out BWC mini jags (pink w/ mylar, and blue w/ mylar) and a pink and white bullet head islander way back. Small to medium ballyhoo. Nothing at our first waypoint, so headed SE. Found a rip and a temp break from 81.2 to 79.4. Scattered weeds, and current running S-N.
Caught about 10 small dolphin up to 8 lbs, then the long line started screaming. Pete gets the rod and catches his first Wahoo!! Congrats Pete!!!! It hit the Islander. No wire, so Pete did a great job!!! Next, the same rod takes off, and Derrick brings in a 14 plus F/A.
We lost the cold water and decided to drop to the bottom as the wind and waves were building. Never anchored, just power drifted. Caught Pinkeys, BSB, Red Grouper, Triggerfish, Grunts, and Beeliners. All on either cut bait or squid. 115 feet. Very bad current.
Headed in and met some sloppy seas, but had a blast. You guys are welcome back anytime!!!
Hope all had a good day.
Good Luck,
Midnight
