ReelFinatical ~ 7/29/2010
Yesterday was Reel Finatical's first day ever splashing around in the Atlantic. What a crappy day it turned into!- so you can stop reading right now and you won't miss anything -
I got up, checked Reefcast & Supermap a final time. Left the house at 6:30 heading to Wrightsville with crew of me, Scott, Scott's Dad, and Uncle Ronnie. Headed out 30 miles SSE in great seas and sunny skies.
Lotta bait in the ICW. Saw LOTS of flying fish offshore, and I mean groups of 15 and 20 flying out at a time. We trolled around the area & got NOTHING. Marked a dozen new bottom spots to ck out later in teh day. We went to the nearby wx marker and jigged up fresh live bait, used them around but still NOTHING. Didn't see any other boats hooked up either trolling. So we stopped, started getting lines in, and as lines sunk towards the bottom, a freakin BSB hit a ballyhoo and it had a dogfish after him. Well H*LL we know we are doomed now!!!
Went back to the marked areas and tried bottom fishing. Nice structure on the bottom but either fish had lockjaw or nobody was at home. =( Did pull in BSBs (of course) & some big grunts and what Uncle Ronnie called HorseMouths. Dad gota nice BSB stolen by a 40# Cuda which got hooked himself! lol. He fought it awhile until his legs hurt and handed iti off to Scott.
We covered over 90 miles of ocean yesterday looking for decent fish! The Solunar Table on FPT gave yesterday a 0 anyway.
Also got caught in 2 storms, so we were fishing in the rain with lighting around us, antenna just a popping and buzzing. I need a RADAR!!! & I already have one picked out!!
I hope fishing is better for us soon!! lol Actually, next time I'm going with Matthew!!! haha!! j/k
To end the day, Scott says to me "can we move back to Florida".... LOL

That right there is worth the price of admission, even if you didn't get a single bite.

Thanks for the report.
I saw your boat gone in the afternooon, and was a little worried about y'all in that lightning. Glad you got back safe!!!!! I've got that XM weather radar on my Garmin. Wouldn't trade it for the world!!!!
It was very slow today also. Out of 60 boats, only 5 Sailfish caught.
Nice to see your Dad out there!!!!!!!!!!!!
It will get better,
