MBI 8/1 - Sails & Misc.
MBI 8/1/2011
5:30am alarm was buzzing...heard it was raining... checked the radar & it had almost all moved out... Called Scott's Dad to come on when he got ready & we pointed the Reel Finatical offshore out of WB.
Stopped on some bait about 3-5 miles from 23 mi. Got some live cigs in the livewell. Got going another mile & saw birds working. Sailfish!! Put out the barefoot chin weights, naked, w/ ballyhoo, trolled the prettiest you have ever seen...put live cigs out too... & our ballyhoo dredge. Even tried pitch baits to one right by the boat when we were pulling stuff in. Ended up with a 0-3 tally on Sails by noon.
Switched out to the bottom reels & pushed out to an uncle's Mingo holes. Wore them out on squid, cut bait, & live baits. Limited out so went out a little more and dropped for Grouper. 110-120' had Red Grouper but didn't get any Gags today. Plenty nice dwellers for a mixed bag (white snapper, grunts). Throw in a fat Cuda & big Tiger Shark for added excitement.
Also got into a load of peanut dolphin later in the day. FIL enjoyed that I think. Three of us were slinging them in at a time, so you can imagine what the boat looked like....
beautiful ride in. Back on the hill around 8pm. Grilled fish & fish tacos on the menu for Thurs night!!
